Done well, crate training gives your dog a safe, calming space and makes house-training far easier. The key is to build positive associations from day one.
Leave the crate door open and toss treats inside so your dog chooses to explore it. Feed meals near or inside the crate. Never use the crate as a time-out — it should always be a good place to be.
Build up duration slowly. Start with a few seconds behind a closed door and work toward longer stretches as your dog stays relaxed. If they whine, wait for a pause before opening so you are not rewarding the fuss.
